Wendy’s confirms Sale drive-thru will open in November

American fast-food chain Wendy’s has confirmed that its first Greater Manchester restaurant will open in Sale "next month".

The new drive-thru will occupy the former TGI Fridays restaurant on Cross Street, which has been empty since the restaurant chain closed the site in October 2024.

A spokesperson for Wendy’s confirmed to Life in Sale that the company is aiming for a November opening, although an exact date has yet to be announced.

The spokesperson said: "We’re excited to bring Wendy’s to Sale and are currently planning to open our new restaurant next month.

"We can't wait to welcome the local community and serve up Wendy's favourites soon."

We reported on the plans back in July, following the submission of planning applications to transform the former TGI Fridays site into a drive-thru restaurant.

Trafford Council granted planning permission for the conversion in June, with the proposals including changes to the building's exterior, a new drive-thru lane and landscaping.

Wendy's, which returned to the UK market in 2021, is known for its square beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, nuggets, fries and Frosty desserts. However, the arrival of the American fast-food chain in Sale has received a mixed response locally.

Not everyone is looking forward to the opening, with one Life in Sale reader describing the plans as "more ultra-processed junk" and raising concerns about the potential health impact of fast food.
