The list of "once over-looked locations attracting wealthy buyers" in the UK outside of England's capital is based on figures found by Savills Real Estate and commissioned by the national newspaper.

It is based on areas that have outperformed the UK average house price growth rate, with Sale, plus other Trafford towns of Altrincham and Hale, all ranking in the top 20.

Sale has ranked third on the list, seeing an average house price growth of 77 per cent in recent years, while Altrincham ranks ninth on the list, with a rise of 67 per cent.

In total there are four areas in Greater Manchester on the list, with Gatley coming fourth in the country.

Parts of the city-region are seeing massive growth in house prices due to the "influx of jobs, money and development", according to Tom Burke of Savills in Knutsford.

The Telegraph points to the regeneration of Altrincham town centre as the biggest driver of its growth over the past decade, with the reopening of Market House as a food hall being the "first upgrade".
