Emergency services called to Sale restaurant after diners fall ill
Emergency services descended on a Sale restaurant this afternoon (Saturday, 06 September) after several diners reportedly became unwell.
Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to Dosa Kingss on Northenden Road at around 12.40pm following reports that a number of customers had suffered reactions after eating food inside the restaurant.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that “several people were treated at the scene for minor reactions”, while it is understood that one diner was affected more seriously. At least eight people are understood to have become unwell
Northenden Road was temporarily closed while the emergency services managed the incident. Early concerns about a gas leak were quickly ruled out. GMP officers remained at the scene for several hours before leaving later in the day. By Saturday evening, officials from Trafford Council and the Health and Safety Executive were still in attendance as enquiries continued.
In an initial statement, since deleted from its social media channels, Dosa Kingss told customers:
“We regret to inform you that our premises will be temporarily closed following reports of allergic reactions experienced by a few guests. Please be assured that the food in question was not part of our regular menu, but a one-off festive dish (yam). We are working closely with the Health Agency to ensure the highest standards of food safety and to safeguard the well-being of all our patrons.”
The restaurant later replaced this with an updated message, stating that they are cooperating fully with authorities and will share further updates before reopening.
A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 12.40pm today (06 September), we received a report of people becoming unwell at a restaurant on Northenden Road, Sale. Emergency services quickly attended and several people were treated at the scene for minor reactions. Enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing.”
Life in Sale will share further updates as more details are confirmed.
