Sale Moor coffee shop Sale Moon announces closure

An independent coffee shop in Sale Moor has announced it will be closing its doors this month – just weeks after being named among the best coffee shops in the UK.

Sale Moon, on Northenden Road shared the news with customers on Friday (28 February), confirming that its final day of trading will be Sunday 15 March.

The team said via social media: “It’s been two years since we opened Sale Moon.

“When we started, our goals seemed straightforward: to create a space where great speciality drinks and thoughtful hospitality coexist. A place that felt welcoming, intentional, and community driven. In many ways, we achieved that. Sale Moon has became a home for tastings, workshops, competitions, and connection, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built.

But it is time for us to pause.”

Rather than citing a lack of support, the owners were clear that the decision comes down to capacity and standards.

“As the project grew, it became clear that sustaining and developing Sale Moon to the standard we believe in requires more time and energy than we can responsibly commit right now. Rather than compromise on the experience or the values that shaped Sale Moon, we are choosing to step back and reassess what the next iteration should look like.”

The announcement will come as a real blow to Sale’s serious coffee drinkers. In a town increasingly well served by independent cafés, Sale Moon carved out a reputation as a destination for speciality coffee enthusiasts. It wasn’t just somewhere to grab a quick flat white – it was a space for tastings, brewing workshops and competitions.

Only recently, Sale Moon was recognised nationally, being named among the UK’s best coffee shops — a proud moment not just for the business but for Sale Moor too.

In their closing message, the team thanked the community that helped shape the space:

“We want to thank every guest, collaborator, competitor, supplier and friend who supported Sale Moon along the way. Your belief, encouragement and presence turned our humble idea into something very real and very special.”

Importantly, this is framed as a pause rather than a permanent goodbye.

“Sale Moon will return in a form that allows it to thrive fully, rather than simply exist. Until then, we’re grateful for every moment, every cup and every person who shared this journey with us.”

Customers have until Sunday 15 March to visit for one last cup.
