Sale honey business to feature in BRIT Awards VIP gift bags

A Sale-based honey producer is set to get a taste of showbiz glamour this weekend, with its products included in VIP gift bags at the BRIT Awards.

Manchester Honey Company, which has a small retail unit in Sale Moor, will see its honey handed to stars attending the ceremony at Co-op Live arena in Manchester on Saturday (28 February), as the prestigious music awards come to the city for the first time.

The family-run business, founded by Gareth and Louise Trehearn (pictured below), produces raw honey from hives across Greater Manchester – including Sale – and sells it by postcode provenance, alongside a range of beeswax products.

Director Gareth said the opportunity was a far cry from the usual reality of urban beekeeping. "Most of our time is spent out in a field, usually alone, with insects, in whatever weather Manchester decides to throw at us," he said.

"So to be part of something as glamorous as the BRIT Awards is a really exciting opportunity."

The company is one of a number of local businesses being spotlighted as the BRITs comes to Manchester and co-founder Louise said the moment was also a chance to celebrate what makes the city special.

"Manchester's bee is such a brilliant symbol of the city," she said. "But beyond the icon, there's an amazing natural ecosystem here — parks, gardens and green spaces that support pollinators and wildlife. Our honey is a taste of that local landscape."

The business said it hoped the exposure would encourage people to seek out local producers – and admitted it wouldn't mind a little celebrity endorsement along the way.

"If any of the artists want to try it and end up being photographed with it, we'd absolutely love to see that," Gareth said. "We're incredibly proud that they'll be tasting Manchester."
