Sale Library to reopen following major refurbishment

Sale Library is set to reopen later this week following a major refurbishment – and will feature much-loved animated favourites.

The reopening of Sale Library will take place on Friday (07 November). The refurbishment, made possible by public funding from Arts Council England, has completely revamped the library and foyer area of Sale Waterside, creating a modern, welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

As part of the works, the library layout has been redesigned to improve accessibility and the visitor experience, with new furniture, digital facilities and an under-fives corner with its own 'big book stage' for storytime and rhymetime sessions.

Staff have been working hard to restock the shelves, ensuring the library is ready to welcome back visitors from 10am on Friday morning, with over 25,000 books waiting to be explored.

A refreshed foyer area will provide a welcoming reception space for visitors to the wider Waterside building, helping to create a vibrant cultural and community hub in the heart of Sale.

The library will also feature a new permanent exhibition devoted to the Cosgrove Hall Films Archive, celebrating the local animation studio behind much-loved characters like Danger Mouse and Count Duckula. In addition, a dedicated exhibition cube near the entrance of the library will house Cosgrove Hall’s Postman Pat and his iconic sorting office, providing a charming display for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

Residents are invited to explore the newly transformed Sale Library from Friday 07 November, open Monday to Saturday. The new exhibition space for Cosgrove Hall Films Archive will open to the public later this year.

Cllr Eve Parker, Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage at Trafford Council, said: “I'm thrilled to welcome everyone back to Sale Library. This refurbishment has not only given the library a fresh new look but also strengthened its place as a creative, inclusive and inspiring space for all.

“I would like to thank residents for their patience while the refurbishment took place. This is your space and we can’t wait to welcome you back.”
