It’s a welcome addition for the town, with local residents regularly calling for more menswear options in the area – and now the team behind Stanley Square has delivered.
Joe & Co is already a well-loved presence at Altrincham Market, where it has built a loyal following thanks to its limited-edition garments crafted from high-quality Italian and Japanese denim. The new Sale shop marks an exciting expansion for the business, which will continue trading at Alty Market.
The brand, founded by Josef Schindler, is proudly independent and deeply rooted in the textile heritage of the North West. Specialising in timeless, modern-vintage menswear, Joe & Co creates sustainable denim jeans and luxury workwear – all designed and handcrafted in old mill towns and villages across the region.
Michael Brown, director of Altered Space, the company leading the regeneration and development of Stanley Square, told Life in Sale, "We are beyond excited to welcome Joe & Co to Stanley Square in the coming weeks.
"It's fair to say that the local Sale community have been vocal in their desire to see a quality men's clothing store back in the town centre. Joe & Co is a unique and stylish brand founded and nurtured in the North West and we couldn’t be happier that Joe has chosen Stanley Square as his permanent base."
The new Stanley Square store will take over the unit previously occupied by Ashby’s, which closed in December 2024. Joe & Co describe themselves as “The Northern Dry Goods Company,” producing “superbly engineered timeless garments” that are “made for the few, not for the many.” Their approach blends tradition with craftsmanship, modern tailoring with vintage influence and British manufacturing with a global outlook.
“We are not a brand that lavishly follows fashion or chases the latest trend,” the company says.
“We are dedicated to a tradition of the highest quality of design, attention to detail, craftsmanship – a tradition that made Manchester and the North West famous for textile and manufacturing all over the world.”
The opening date for the new shop is yet to be confirmed, but excitement is already building for its arrival.
