Cork of the North Sale unveils 10 events to mark a decade in business

A beloved wine bar and shop in Sale is pulling out all the stops to celebrate its 10th anniversary next month – and they've promised ten special events to mark the milestone in style.

Cork of the North, which has built a loyal following among wine lovers in the area since opening its Sale branch, will kick off celebrations in March with a packed programme of tastings, parties and even a hike in the Peak District, running all the way through to July.

The centrepiece of the festivities is a 10-hour birthday party at the bar on Sunday 22 March, running from 1pm until 11pm, with a lineup of DJs and free admission for all. The night before, on Saturday 21 March, guests can attend the exclusive launch of a brand-new wine – 'Ski Lift' – hosted by Cork of the North owner Marc Hough alongside Gunter Engelbert from Austria's Salzl Winery, priced at £40 per person.

For the more adventurous, one of the most eye-catching events on the calendar is an outdoor wine tasting on top of Tegg's Nose in the Peak District on Saturday 23 May. Participants will hike to the summit on the outskirts of Macclesfield before enjoying a tasting session with some of the shop's finest bottles – all for £65 per person, with return travel from Sale included. Tickets are very limited for this event, so hurry!

Other highlights include a tasting of the last ten years' vintages – with bottles from every year between 2015 and 2025 — served alongside a small plates lunch on Saturday 30 May (£70pp), as well as the return of the shop's popular 'Wine and Crap Crisps' evening on Wednesday 03 June.

Cork of the North's very first manager, James Hands, will also be making a special return on Wednesday 10 June to present a wines of Portugal extravaganza, showcasing the best reds, whites and fortified wines the country has to offer.

The full line-up also includes a wine-and-cheese pairing evening, a fortified wine tasting featuring port, sherry and Madeira, a blind tasting contest with prizes and a tasting of the shop's 10 best-selling wines over the past decade.
