£6.5m pothole repair to begin on local roads this spring
Sale residents could soon see some of the worst local roads repaired, as a £6.5 million highways programme gets under way this spring.
One Trafford - the partnership between Trafford Council and contractor Amey - has confirmed the investment for 2026/27, covering pothole repairs, resurfacing, pavement upgrades, street lighting, drainage and road safety works across the borough.
The announcement comes after a record year for pothole repairs in Trafford. In 2025, crews completed 3,884 pothole-related jobs - the highest annual figure since 2015 - as the volume of reports from residents hit a new peak.
Work will be prioritised using the Council's asset management data, with full details of which roads are included due to be published on the Trafford Council website shortly.
Last year's programme saw One Trafford complete more than 41,000 square metres of resurfacing - larger than five football pitches - including comprehensive resurfacing on Ashfield Road, from Tatton Road to Claremont Road.
Additional funding from Transport for Greater Manchester and the Government's Network North programme allowed several further schemes to be accelerated.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford's Executive Member for Highways, said the new programme represented a significant step forward.
"By using data to prioritise the areas that need attention most, and by coordinating works more carefully across neighbourhoods, we can ensure every pound delivers real value," he said.
"This programme gives us a clear and confident plan for the year ahead, and we are committed to carrying out the work in a way that minimises disruption and delivers the lasting improvements residents deserve."
