Young people wanted to help host a free live show at Refract:26

Young people in and around Sale are being invited to step into the spotlight this month as part of a fast-moving, funny and unique live show coming to Waterside for Refract:26.

Sound Board from Zest Theatre

Waterside and Zest Theatre are looking for up to 15 young people aged 13 to 20 to become youth hosts for Sound Board, a free outdoor performance taking place at Waterside Plaza on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 July.

Part chat show, part game and part live performance, Sound Board has been created especially for young people and their community, with quick-fire debates, playful challenges, big conversations and unexpected moments all shaped by the people taking part.

The show is not about learning lines, pretending to be someone else or having lots of stage experience. In fact, no acting experience is needed at all. Instead, organisers are looking for young people who are happy to bring their own opinions, personality and energy to a show that is built around real voices, real reactions and the kind of conversations that can go anywhere once they begin.

Hosted by professional performers and local young people, Sound Board gives its youth hosts the chance to be part of a live Refract:26 event in front of an audience, while helping to shape the performance as it happens.

Those selected will need to be available for rehearsals at The Chambers, Waterside, on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 July from 4pm to 7pm. Performances will then take place at Waterside Plaza on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 July, with shows at 1pm, 2.30pm and 4pm on both days.

For anyone aged 13 to 20 who has ever fancied doing something creative, trying something a bit different or meeting new people, this could be a brilliant opportunity. You do not need to be the loudest person in the room. You do not need to have performed before. You just need to be available, willing to get involved and ready to bring yourself to the stage.

Sound Board is part of Refract:26, Waterside's festival of performance and events, which returns to Sale later this month with theatre, comedy, live music, outdoor shows and free family performances.
