Trafford Council shuts down Sale property after drug offences and associated disorder
A one-bedroom flat in Sale has been closed down after repeated police call-outs to deal with drug offences and disorder.
Manchester Magistrates issued a closure order on the address in Hurst Avenue after court action by Trafford Council.
The application was supported by Greater Manchester Police and follows concerns about drug offences including the presence of Class A, B and C drugs, numerous snap bags and other items associated with the supply of drugs.
The court heard the property had been illegally sub-let. There had also been incidents of disorder there and a large scythe was recovered. The closure order means the flat will be secured and no-one can enter for three months while its owner, a social landlord, attends to matters.
Cllr Rose Thompson, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Safety, said: “Our priority is maintaining a safe and peaceful neighbourhood for people who live in the area. Thanks to the work of our Community Safety team with the support of the police, the crime and disorder associated with this property has come to an end.
“This court order shows that the Council will not hesitate to take strong and decisive action to protect our communities when and where it is needed.”
