The extra funding, allocated for 2026, will be used to improve the condition of local roads and address problem areas across the borough. It will be spent on repairing small and medium-scale carriageway defects, helping to prevent further deterioration and reduce the need for more extensive resurfacing work in the future.

This additional investment is expected to repair around 2,000 square metres of highway across Trafford.

The £300,000 boost comes on top of the £6.8 million already allocated to highways maintenance and pothole repairs in the Council’s 2025/26 budget. The additional funding will support reactive maintenance works carried out by specialist contractors, with delivery closely monitored by officers from The One Trafford Partnership, a collaboration between Trafford Council and Amey, to ensure high standards, efficiency and value for money.

This additional investment forms part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining its highway network, enhancing road safety and improving journeys for residents, businesses and visitors to Trafford.

Cllr Stephen Adshead, Executive Member for Highways, Environmental and Traded Services at Trafford Council, said: “At this time of year, after long spells of wet and freezing weather, it's not surprising that more bumps, cracks and faults start to show on our roads.”

"I know how frustrating that can be for road users and it's a challenge being faced by councils across the country. That’s why we've put extra resources in place to help us respond more quickly and tackle problem areas sooner.

"By targeting these kinds of repairs and intervening earlier, we can make a real difference on roads that may not yet need full resurfacing but clearly need attention.”
