Five-year-old Tommy, from Ashton-on-Mersey, has already faced cancer twice in his short life and now, heartbreakingly, he is fighting it for a third time.

The Wellfield Infant and Nursery School pupil was first diagnosed with Wilms tumour, a rare kidney cancer, at just two years old. He underwent chemotherapy and surgery with extraordinary bravery and rang the end-of-treatment bell in November 2022.

But sadly, the cancer returned just 11 months later, this time in his lungs and chest. Tommy endured more chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy and in June 2024, his family was overjoyed to be told there was no sign of disease.

Sadly, in May this year, they were given the unimaginable news that the cancer had returned again, more aggressive and with limited treatment options available in the UK.

Now, Tommy’s family and friends are urgently trying to raise £300,000 to fund access to specialist treatment and clinical trials abroad that could offer him a chance of survival.

Despite undergoing further chemotherapy, local treatment options are now severely limited due to the intensive treatment Tommy has already received. His family is exploring clinical trials and innovative therapies not available on the NHS and they are asking the community to help.

Tommy is the youngest of five siblings and is described as bright, funny and full of joy. He loves rainbows, cars and football, and brings “light and laughter wherever he goes.”

The fundraising will help cover the cost of overseas treatment, travel and accommodation and essential care and recovery support for Tommy and his family. Any unused funds will be donated to help other children fighting cancer.
