Seafood restaurant The Oystercatcher closes in Sale after 18 months

Sale has lost another independent eatery with the closure of The Oystercatcher in Stanley Square.

The seafood restaurant, which opened in October 2023, announced its permanent closure with immediate effect yesterday (30 April). The owners confirmed they will now focus all efforts on their original Chorlton site, which first opened in 2018.

Known for its relaxed vibe and top-tier fish dishes cooked over coal, The Oystercatcher quickly earned a reputation in Sale for quality seafood. A regularly changing seasonal menu kept things fresh, with standouts like the monkfish dish gaining plenty of local fans.

In a statement shared on social media, the team said:

“We have decided to close our restaurant in Sale permanently. The Oystercatcher in Chorlton will remain open as normal. We will be focusing our efforts on the original restaurant, hoping to cook and serve top notch seafood for years to come.”

They also thanked guests who had dined at the Sale location over the last 18 months and gave a nod to the local team they worked with during their time in the town.

The Oystercatcher’s exit comes as Stanley Square continues to evolve, with a mix of new openings and recent closures shaping the town centre’s changing food and drink offering.

Fans of the restaurant can still enjoy their signature style at the Chorlton venue, where the team continues to champion seasonal seafood, oysters and their trademark charcoal cooking.
