Sale Post Office launches free mobile phone help sessions for pensioners
A new community initiative at Sale Post Office is offering free, one-to-one support to help older residents feel more confident using their mobile phones.
Sale Post Office in Stanley Square has announced a thoughtful new scheme aimed at pensioners who have been struggling with their devices.
Postmaster Sid Patel, who has run the branch since August 2014, said he has noticed more older customers feeling stuck or frustrated with their mobiles – and has decided to do something practical to help.
Starting Tuesday 13 January 2026, Sid will be setting aside a few hours every Tuesday evening after closing time to offer free, 30-minute appointments to talk through questions, share tips and help people get the most out of their phone.
It’s a simple idea, but potentially a big one for people who live alone or who rely on their phone as a lifeline.
How it works
When: Every Tuesday evening (after closing), starting 13 January 2026
Cost: Free
Booking: By appointment only – 30 minutes per person (couples welcome)
Where: Sale Post Office, Stanley Square
To book, Sid is asking people to pop into the Post Office and he’ll do his best to get you (or a loved one) booked in.
Sid plans to run the sessions as a trial for four weeks. After that, he’ll review whether there’s enough demand to restart the sessions.
Sid will be able unable to help with queries related to banking apps. For anything bank-related, please contact your bank’s own technical support team or speak to a trusted family member.
Spread the word
If you have a parent, grandparent, neighbour or friend in Sale who’s been quietly struggling with their phone (and maybe not wanting to admit it), this could be a genuinely helpful and confidence-boosting way to get support in a familiar place, with a friendly face.
