Record English results for Ashton on Mersey’s class of 2025

75 per cent achieve grade 5+ in English as Sale school reports strong outcomes across the curriculum

Ashton on Mersey School GCSEs 2025

Pupils at Ashton on Mersey School are celebrating an “excellent” set of exam results, with the school reporting its highest-ever English performance for the Class of 2025.

According to the school, 75 per cent of pupils secured a grade 5 or above in English – a record figure that is significantly above national averages. In Maths, more than 10 per cent of pupils achieved top grades 8 or 9, which the school credits to a sustained focus on stretching able mathematicians and its link with the Turing NW Maths Hub, based on site.

Leaders added that success was broad-based this year, with notable outcomes in Geography, Art, Hospitality and Sports Studies. Several pupils averaged a grade 8 across their subjects, while the highest achievers secured six grade 9s, including top marks in English, Maths and Science.

Headteacher Lee McConaghie said the results build on last week’s Key Stage 5 outcomes:

“Ashton on Mersey School is delighted with these results, which reflect success across our whole curriculum and ensure pupils can confidently take their next steps. I’m also excited that many of the Class of 2025 will choose to stay with us by joining Ashton on Mersey’s Sixth Form. Many congratulations to every young person and their families.”

The school serves the Sale community and is part of The Dean Trust. Parents and pupils seeking more information about Sixth Form options are encouraged to contact the school directly.
