Students at Ashton on Mersey Sixth Form are celebrating a strong set of A-Level and vocational results – marking a milestone year for the school.

While the Sale school has a long track record of high achievement in vocational qualifications, this summer saw its first ever cohort of A-Level students receive their results. Early figures show promising outcomes across several subjects, with 77% of students achieving A*-B in English Language and 57% reaching A*-B in Accountancy. One student achieved an impressive 2A*s and an A.

Vocational results remain a strength at the sixth form, particularly in Sport, Construction and Business Studies. Nearly half (47%) of Sport students were awarded the top grade of DDD*, placing the school in the top 4% nationally for vocational outcomes.

Many students are now set to begin their next chapter, with places confirmed at universities including Manchester, Bristol, Liverpool, Birmingham and Sheffield. Others are heading into competitive higher-level apprenticeships, with companies such as KPMG among those welcoming Ashton on Mersey students into their ranks.

Headteacher Lee McConaghie said: “Once again Ashton on Mersey is proud of the achievements of our young people. Our school’s strong reputation for post-16 vocational education has now extended to A-Level provision. The academic ambitions of our staff, governors and trust have always aligned with those of our students and their families.”

The school’s sixth form is set to expand further in September with a new partnership with Sale Sharks and upgraded facilities, including a refurbished sixth form building and a new science lab.
