PureGym to open in Sale’s Stanley Square this December

PureGym is set to move into Stanley Square later this year.

The national gym chain has agreed a 15-year lease with asset manager Altered Space and will take over the prominent former Wilko unit in the Square. The 24,000 sq. ft space is currently being fitted out, with doors expected to open in December 2025.

A PureGym spokesperson said the new 16,800 sq. ft facility will respond to “sustained demand for flexible, affordable fitness in Greater Manchester.” They added: “All through our flagship low-cost and no contract memberships, members will have everything they need to improve their mental and physical well-being, so they can work out and leave the gym feeling their best. We look forward to welcoming members through the doors of PureGym Sale later this year.”

The arrival of PureGym is expected to provide a year-round boost for the town centre, bringing consistent footfall to Stanley Square’s mix of shops, cafés, bars and offices.

Altered Space has invested around £5 million in Stanley Square’s transformation since 2019, focusing on creating a community-led, mixed-use destination that supports independent businesses. Footfall has risen by 10 per cent year-on-year in the last six months, and the square is now fully let, home to more than 30 independents alongside national names.

The extra footfall it will inevitably generate will support the current retail, food and beverage units, as well as our fully-let office space, The Classrooms, which are all thriving in Stanley Square. Regeneration takes time and is an ongoing process, but Stanley Square has gone from strength to strength since our involvement began in 2019 and PureGym will undoubtedly contribute to Sale’s growing town centre economy.”

The addition of PureGym follows recent openings from a wave of independent businesses in Stanley Square, which has become a hub for retail, leisure, food and drink.

PureGym Sale’s opening offer is £14.99 per month (usually £25.99) plus £15 joining.
