It is one of the biggest half marathons in the area and probably the flattest in the UK (although runners might not be thinking that by mile 11!)

What is the half marathon route?

The Half Marathon starts and ends near Old Trafford and the 13.1-mile course will enter the city centre, with a stretch along the Bridgewater Way and within sight of some Manchester landmarks.

How are roads affected in Sale on the day?

Bus travellers and drivers should expect diversions on the day, with many roads completely closed for several hours, including parts of Cross Street, Washway Road and Broad Road.

Road closures in Sale

Take a look at the map below for full details of road closures and timings on the day:

National Highways has confirmed that all entry and exit slip roads at Junction 7, for Altrincham and Stretford, are expected to be closed between 6.30am and 5.30pm on the day.

The closures affect the clockwise and anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads.

The Order comes into force on 11 October and will remain in force for as long as is necessary to facilitate the road race. Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M60 Motorway and local roads will be well signed.

The closure does not apply to vehicles involved in the race, emergency services, traffic officers or those undertaking winter maintenance.

The public notice states that the closure may be extended if required.

Last October saw 21,000 people take part and raise over £1,100,000 for local and national charities. The 2024 Manchester Half also created a £7 million boost to the local economy, with thousands travelling to Greater Manchester and spending in local hotels, restaurants and shops. Good luck to all the runners! 👏
