Family history help for Sale residents tracing their ancestors
Trafford Local Studies and Archives in Sale is offering free, one-to-one sessions with residents who want to trace their family tree.
Family History Help Day sessions take place the first Monday of each month from 10am to 4pm at the centre at Waterside House in Sale.
They include tips and advice on using genealogy websites such as Ancestry and Find My Past to research births, marriage, death as well as census records, to discover relatives from the past.
The sessions have been running for several years and have helped many residents find out fascinating information about their ancestors.
In addition to the monthly Family History Help Day there is a specialised Caribbean Family History help session from 12pm to 4pm on the second Monday of every month, with expert genealogist Linford Sweeney, aimed at people looking for relatives of Caribbean heritage.
If residents are unable to attend either of these events, they have the option of booking a help session on Thursdays between 11am and 1pm. Free, one-to-one sessions can be booked by calling 0161 912 3013, emailing trafflocals@trafford.gov.uk or in person at Trafford Local Studies and Archives.
Cllr Eve Parker, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Heritage and Culture said: “Tracking down ancestors can be a fascinating pursuit and we’re here to help people uncover information about their families back through the years. There are various tools and tips available to help in this search and we can suggest ideas and avenues for exploration.”
