Review: Dee Thai Kitchen, Sale
New arrival Dee Thai Kitchen on School Road has the potential to be a proper neighbourhood restaurant. The staff are happy to see you, like they are genuinely glad you’re there and your food arrives without too long a wait.
We went for a mix of starters and two curries and everything that came out was generous, fresh-tasting and full of the familiar Thai flavours you crave when you want something comforting but not boring.
We started with prawn crackers for the table, because honestly, is it a Thai meal without them? Then came the salt and pepper chicken wings, an immediate highlight: a good portion for sharing, crisp-skinned and moreish, tossed through with chilli, onion, aromatic salt and a smoky edge of paprika. I could have ordered another plate of them.
Next up were the dim sum dumplings, a chef’s recommendation — steamed chicken and prawn parcels that felt like a softer counterpoint to the wings. They arrived glossy and delicate. If you like starting a meal with a bit of variety (crunch, steam, spice, savoury), this is a good way to do it.
For mains, we stuck with curries and kept it classic: a chicken green curry and a chicken panang, both served with steamed jasmine rice. The green curry did exactly what you hope a good one will do — rich, aromatic, creamy with coconut milk and laced with Thai herbs so it tastes bright as well as comforting. The heat was steady rather than showy, building gradually as you ate, which made it genuinely hard to stop going back for another spoonful. The panang curry brought a different kind of satisfaction: thicker and creamier, with subtle roasted peanut notes that gave it depth without turning it heavy. Dee Thai Kitchen doesn't just do curries though, the menu is full of soups, noodle dishes and stir fries.
Everything arrived promptly and the service was consistently friendly without hovering. There’s an easy, welcoming feel to Dee Thai Kitchen that suits the neighbourhood — you’re looked after, but you don’t feel rushed out the door.
If you’ve walked past, you’ll have noticed the children’s play area in the front window. Dee Thai Kitchen is set up to make families feel comfortable and on nights when that area is full, it can get a little lively. That’s not a complaint so much as a heads-up: if you’re hoping for a hushed, candlelit date-night atmosphere where you can hear every word clearly, you might prefer to pick a quieter time to visit. If you’re coming with children, though, it’s easy to imagine little ones making new friends while the adults get to enjoy their dinner.
Overall, Dee Thai Kitchen feels like a strong addition to Sale’s food scene: classic Thai dishes done with care, good portion sizes and a warm, family-friendly welcome that will suit many locals.
I'll certainly be back!
