Celebrating the beginning of shining careers in Sale

Taz Kahn (seen below) is flying the flag for the life-changing opportunities being offered by apprenticeship schemes in Sale.

To mark National Apprenticeship Week (9-15 February), 31-year-old Taz is urging others to join a scheme and kickstart their careers, with his own experience putting him on the road to a rewarding future.

Taz began his apprenticeship at Specsavers Sale, starting as an audiology admin, then becoming an audiology practitioner and is now a trainee hearing aid dispenser. He is currently in his final year of the Hearing Aid Dispenser Apprenticeship with De Montfort University, working toward a Foundation Degree in Hearing Aid Audiology.

In the past three years, Taz has been a popular figure at the locally owned and run store and he has a long-term goal of eventually becoming a partner at Specsavers.

He says: “My apprenticeship has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s allowed me to learn on the job every day while building real confidence in what I do. I love being part of a team where I can grow, ask questions and put new skills into practice straight away.

“Working with the public is especially rewarding - no two days are ever the same, and it feels great to know I’m helping people. I’d recommend an apprenticeship to anyone who wants to earn, learn, and develop at the same time. It’s given me a career I’m proud of and a future I’m excited about.”

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, a wide range of Greater Manchester organisations are announcing opportunities for young people.

Specsavers is 2025 National Apprenticeship Skills Award Winner for the Large Employer category, while having a 98 per cent pass distinction across all of its apprentices. It also holds the 2024 Princess Royal Training Award.

Anum Saleemi-Ali, hearcare director at Specsavers Sale, says: “Taz has become an invaluable part of our team. His natural warmth with the public, paired with a genuine desire to learn, has allowed him to grow into their role beautifully. I’ve watched his confidence and skills develop week by week and it’s been a privilege to support that journey.

“As a store, investing in local people isn’t just the right thing to do - it strengthens our community and ensures our customers receive care from someone who truly understands them. We’re incredibly proud of what Taz has achieved and excited for what’s still to come.”
