New independent record and film store GATEKEEP to open in Sale
Music and film fans will have a new place to rummage for records, rare finds and old-school media from this Friday (28 August), as independent record and film store GATEKEEP opens in Sale town centre.
The new business is the creation of Sale residents and couple Jess Campbell and Billy Goodwin and is located on the ground floor of Emporium M33 on Tatton Road. GATEKEEP will have its soft launch from Friday, with an online store also set to follow.
Jess previously managed popular Altrincham record shop Tasty Records and has now bought stock from the business to set up a record store of her own – something she says has "always been her ambition".
Both big music and film fans, Jess and Billy describe GATEKEEP as something of an "independent HMV", but with a focus on the unusual, collectible and harder-to-find. The curated selection will include new and used vinyl, with a particularly big soundtrack section, alongside cassettes, CDs, VHS, DVDs and Blu-rays. There will also be band merchandise, a rail of band T-shirts and other music and film collectables.
Rather than filling the shelves for the sake of it, the pair want GATEKEEP to be somewhere customers can discover the "not normal stuff you can get everywhere" – including those records, films and collectables they may have been trying to track down for a while. The pair say that the store is "not full of tat – it’s full of things you actually want!"
The couple believe the store fills a gap in Sale and there were already signs of an M33 appetite for it during Jess's time at Tasty Records, as she estimates that around half of the Altrincham shop's customers were Sale residents.
"We're really excited to open and offer something new and exciting to the town,” Jess said.
"We really think it's something that Sale has been missing."
GATEKEEP will also be buying from the public, with the pair keen to hear from anyone looking to sell collections including vinyl, record players, music memorabilia and collectables.
GATEKEEP opens with a soft launch on Friday, 28 August, on the ground floor of Emporium M33, Tatton Road, Sale.
